Lhochhar 2023

Tamu Lhochhar also known as “Gurung New Year” is one of the greatest festival of Gurung or Tamu community. Lho means "new" and chhar means "year". Tamu Lhochhar marks the beginning of the Tamu Sambat or New year in Gurung Calendar Year. On every 15th of Poush month of the Bikram Sambat calendar (December in AD), Tamu Lhochhar is celebrated. This year, it falls on 30th of December, 2023 when we farewell the "Year of the Cat" and welcome the "Year of the Eagle".
